Repairing the main sail underway

Oct 7, 2005

Location: Passage to Grenada
Author: Aspen
The wind had been at our nose for many hours which meant we couldn’t sail and were therefore depleting our fuel supply. We made it through the night by going only a few knots. We hooked with Ocean Star in the wee hours of the morning for a very elaborate, and very successful fuel transfer. Julia and I then sewed up the ripped sail, and Mark retrieved the halyard by being lifted to the top of the mast while we were underway. We then raised our main sail again. It was nice sailing for a while and we were back on course to Grenada albeit 20 hours behind schedule. It doesn’t sound fun, but somehow we all love it.
