We woke up in Statia for the last time and headed to Saba at 8:30am. It was a 2.5 hour motor and the water was very calm so there were hardly and big waves, which was good for those who get a little sick on passages. We took advantage of the calm seas to practice using an emergency tiller and to practice taking sun sights with a sextant. When we arrived in Saba, some of us felt like we were in Jurassic Park and were waiting to see a dinosaur. Saba is very different from any other island. It is a mountain projecting out of the water. The closest town, called The Bottom, is actually not at the base of the island at all and requires a little hike to get to. It was a great day and I’m excited for the dives tomorrow to see the sharks of Saba.
