Sail to Dominica

Feb 23, 2006

Location: Dominica
Author: Lisette
We had a an amazing sail today. We waived au revoir to Martinique around 8:00 in the morning and headed for Dominica, about a 25 nautical mile journey. Our initial sailing was slow going, but once we were outside of the lee of the island, our sails filled and we were off. Most of the crew stayed on deck taking turns steering and trimming sails while enjoying the occasional splash of waves over the side of the boat. After five hours of steady sailing, we arrived in Dominica, went stern to and dropped anchor. Everyone laucnched in a Boat Appreciation followed by shower time. By early evening, Ocean Star and her crew were sparkling clean and ready for Simon’s delicious quiche dinner. The day ended with a communication class about non-verbal communication, and everyone displayed their new non-verbal skills with a very entertaining game of boat charades.
