Location: Hillsborough Bay, Carriacou
We were up early today at 6:45 to prepare the boat for our motor up the west coast of Grenada. We raised the anchor just after 7am and enjoyed a breakfast of oatmeal and yogurt soon after. Determined to make a successful catch we had three rods out trolling the entire passage and not even a little bite! We enjoyed lunch underway and arrived in Hillsborough Bay, Carriacou in the late afternoon. Upon arrival we set up the tarps and had an oceanography class on gases and nutrients in sea water, learning things such as why the ocean is so clear in the Caribbean. We then had some free time to work on tell-tale articles (the 1st edition is on its way), collect sand samples or survey the fish life under the boat for oceanography research projects. Simon made quiche for dinner, and then we had a marine biology class on marine microbes, and now all know the role they play in red tides and pink sand beaches. Tonight we also have our first anchor watch of the trip.
