Busy sunny days…

Nov 7, 2007

Location: Pigeon Island, Guadeloupe
Author: Kirsty
As the sun rose over the Saints, the crew of Ocean Star ate a hearty breakfast of French toast, raised the anchor and the sails and headed north to Guadeloupe and Pigeon Island. The mild weather conditions defeated our determined efforts and we soon had to give up on the idea of using wind power to reach our destination, reverting instead to the motor. The passage up the west coast of Guadeloupe provided shipmates with the opportunity to read, study and prepare for an afternoon of Oceanography group project work either snorkeling in the shallows recording damselfish behavior, checking out the marine life associated with Ocean Star’s propeller when at anchor, or performing vertical plankton tows to determine semi-diurnal changes in biomass. The crew is now preparing for a lecture on marine mammals this evening and completing knowledge reviews for their Advanced Open Water dive course.
