After yesterday’s dreary and windless afternoon, we were all excited this morning to wake up and find that the wind was beginning to build. After breakfast the oceanography students gave presentations on their semester-long research projects while Simon went ashore to rent us some small Hobie Waves to sail for the morning. After presentations, we shuttled to the beach and had relay races for the next few hours. The competition was intense and everyone seemed to have a great time. After the races, most chose to stay at the beach and enjoy some pleasure sailing or windsurfing. Before lunch, everyone helped to either sail the Hobies back to the yacht club where we’d rented them, or to move Ocean Star onto the fuel dock. We reconvened for lunch and then motored down to Great Harbor Peter where we just finished dinner and are about to move on to our final basic seamanship class where everyone will learn about the basic systems aboard Ocean Star.
