Today began with a quick bagel and cream cheese breakfast, prior to our morning departure from Charleston, Nevis. Instead of slipping the mooring in our typical fashion, using the motor, we put our sailing skills to the test. With four of our sails set we slipped the mooring and slowly moved towards open water where we could begin our passage with a jibe. At around 9 am we began the three hours on and six hours off watch schedule. Although most of the day has been spent as a motor sail just a few hours ago we were able to turn the engine off and enjoy the sound of the waves crashing against our haul. Now as dusk approaches and the ash clouds of Montserrat’s volcano disappears on the horizon, the setting of the sun looks like it will bring a beautiful starry night to those traveling south aboard Ocean Star.
