Location: Rodney Bay, St. Lucia
Today was dedicated to the pursuit of academia and shore based exploration of Rodney Bay. After breakfast, shipmates spent the morning learning about fish in Marine Biology class and then spread out the charts to delve deep into the finer points of navigation. Students practiced such concepts as dead reckoning and set and drift as they continue along the path to acquire the skills necessary to navigate a ship safely from one place to the next. Most ventured ashore for lunch and to explore the yachtie culture around Rodney Bay, by 4:00 the rain had set in and everyone returned to Ocean Star. The afternoon was spent preparing for tomorrow’s sail to Martinique, showering, and completing field journals. The evening holds an Oceanography class on management of fisheries, aquaculture, and pollution, the perfect end to our final day in St.Lucia.
