Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

Apr 1, 2009

Location: West End, BVI
Author: Beth
We were up at the crack of dawn to see off our early departures. After lots of hugs and well wishes, we shared laughs over our recollections of our last night out together as well as some of the best moments from the past 79 days. It feels like it went by absurdly fast, especially the last few weeks. It was equal parts hard work and fun, and no one was really ready for it to end. It’s strange to be back at the same place we were on Day 1, pale and nervous and unaware of things like “courtesy scrapes”, “BA”, “d-rings”, and the “focsle funk” We accomplished so much, earned certifications, learned about Oceanography and Marine Biology, became sailors, forged strong bonds of friendship, and gained so much from each other while calling Ocean Star our home. I’m truly grateful to have spent this time on this beautiful ship, with a fantastic crew, inspiring and intelligent students, and in such a magnificent place! Goodbye, safe travels and carry us in your hearts! andlt;br /andgt;andlt;br /andgt;”I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, andlt;br /andgt;And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,andlt;br /andgt;And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song, and the white sail’s shaking, andlt;br /andgt;And a grey mist on the sea’s face and grey dawn breaking” Sea-Fever, J.
