Exploring Charlestown

Jul 20, 2009

Location: Nevis
Author: Kevin O’Conor
The crew started out the day with a delicious breakfast that consisted of Scrambled eggs and home fried potatoes. After clean up Chris sat down with the crew for an Oceanography lecture that focused on salinity. Basic Seamanship class followed with Al and the crew learned about the rules of the road, rights of way, marks and buoys. In class we have been focusing on finishing the International Crew certification that is given out by the International Yachtmaster Training school. An optional lunch was served on board but most opted to eat out and discover a little bit of Nevis culture. The afternoon was spent ashore exploring the historic town of Charlestown. The wind has been strong and intense all day so dinner was eaten below in order to keep our food on our plates. After dinner the boat was prepped for our passage to Dominica tomorrow and the second Oceanography lecture of the day was given. The crew is excited for their second passage as they are now experienced in the ways of living at sea. Dominica will be the furthest point south Ocean Star goes before turning back north and putting the wind at our backs.
