Charlie Brown

Nov 25, 2009

Location: Statia
Author: Katy P
Today we awoke to an excellent meal of oatmeal and fruit. Shortly afterwards, we all filled out some dive paperwork and then headed off to shore. We were all pleased to find that Statia is a very quaint place filled with friendly locals. Some even commented that it reminded them of Cape Cod because of the gingerbread houses. Some people did some provisioning with Jenny while others went to the post office to send post cards, or simply just explored the town. At lunch time we returned to the boat for some Ramen noodles, and those of us who have been to college reminisced about our Ramen-eating days. After lunch we all geared up for a very highly anticipated dive- the Charlie Brown. The Charles L. Brown is a huge shipwreck, over 100 meters long, and about 30 meters at its deepest. Our dive guide took us through what they call “the highway”- a long hallway about 8 feet wide and 8 feet tall. It was a little creepy being in a very narrow, dark place 85 feet under water, but we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We all left the dive with smiles on our faces, and headed back to Ocean Star for some study time before dinner.
