Grenada Here We Come!

Oct 6, 2010

Location: Underway to Grenada
Author: Aaron Hawkins
We started off the morning with some delicious french toast, after which we had a MTE class where we learned about one of Sea|Mesters founding fathers. He had quite a life growing up. Right after class we got straight to work, tidying up our bunks and getting Ocean Star ready for passage. It wasn’t such smooth sailing at the start and the boat was strewn with seasickness. Even I, the saltiest sailor of them all got a little seasick. But we eventually hit some wind, the seas calmed a bit and we were good to go. Good thing too because we have a long voyage ahead of us. We had a few friendly dolphins check us out around lunch time. That was awesome to see them during the day. I would have to say that night time passages are still my favorite thing by far. Ive grown to love them. You cannot see anything except the stars in the sky, the glowing bioluminescence in the waves of the boat, and maybe the faint glow of a ship in the distance. No land in sight. Its something that has to be experienced. I think we are finally getting the hang of sailing this boat. With a few passages under out belts we are learning a lot every day, and maybe, just maybe we will be able to handle it by ourselves without the staff telling us what to do sometime soon.
