Location: Palma, Mallorca, Spain
Today was the pinnacle for those looking to acquire skills in navigating the high seas. With seven charts laid out in front of seven diligent sailing students they were ready for their two-hour exam. Pencils, dividers and Brenton plotters in hand, the exam was in full swing. Lines were being drawn at all angles to the compass, passages across the Chesapeake Bay were being planned. Three point fixes and dead reckoning positions became the topic of choice. After two hours of searching for lighthouses and channel markers, all was done. With a sigh of relief, because no exam is as hard as you imagine it will be when you’ve spent the last four weeks preparing, it was time to set out and see the sites of Palma, Mallorca for an afternoon.
