Hello St. Vincent!

Oct 21, 2011

Location: Young Cut, St. Vincent
Author: Kristine Faloon
Today began in Bequia, as Ocean Star awoke to a quiet and still morning in Admiralty Bay. After breakfast we prepared Ocean Star for our short trip to St. Vincent- only 7 nautical miles to our next anchorage. We motored into the cut and were greeted with a short and welcome rain shower to cool off the decks and our bodies since the sun had been blazing all morning and we had a minimal amount of wind! It also gave us a good chance for a cap rail scrub to help wash/scrub the grime way- leaving the beautiful amber hue of the teak underneath. We had oceanography class, lunch and then it was time to explore what St. Vincent had to offer. Some took off with Jack to provision food for the next few day- an epic adventure that involved a friendly 8 year old helper at the grocery store that befriended the crew and drove their grocery cart. The crew on board went to check out an old British Fort, hiked up the rock to get a gorgeous view of Ocean Star with St. Vincent in the background. We then snorkeled around the fort and spied a bunch of moray eels and one of my favorite fish- the juvenile smooth trunk fish. The Divemaster candidates also took some of their water skills tests. We had dinner on board and will be finishing the evening with CPR class. Another great day!
