Sea|mester has been awarded the prestigious Sea Education Program of the Year Award for 2011 by Tall Ships America (Formerly the American Sail Training Association). Based in Newport, Rhode Island, and serving all of the United States and Canada, Tall Ships America is a nonprofit organization focused on youth education, leadership development and the preservation of North Americas maritime heritage. The Sea Education Program of the Year Award is presented annually to a vessel or program operated by a current member which significantly contributes to the advancement and credibility of educational programs under sail. Sea|mester was selected from more than 200 member vessels and organizations throughout the United States and Canada to receive the 2011 award. Previous recipients include the Sea Education Association, Sultana Projects and Class Afloat.
Sea|mester was specifically recognized for their 40-year history of offering educational programs for youth aboard sailing vessels. We are thrilled to have received this award, and humbled to have been recognized by such a prestigious community, commented Sea|mester Director, Michael Meighan. While this award celebrates our long history of offering outstanding, life-changing opportunities for young adults, I also view it as a commitment to set the benchmark for our programs in the future.
