Havana Day!

Mar 22, 2012

Location: Cuba
Author: Matt H.
Today started out great with banana bread and bagels for breakfast followed by a free day in Havana, Cuba. We left the boat around 9 and it took about 30 minutes to get there. When we arrived we all split up into smaller groups and went our separate way. Some of us started our day by walking down to the capitol building and then checking out an old train museum that was right behind it followed by lunch. On the way back we went into the house that Fidel Castro grew up in and then went to a chocolate museum that had the best hot chocolate ever. Once we had our fill of chocolate we walked around buying gifts for people and most of us got cigars to waste time before dinner. We all ate at different places, our group ate in a restaurant that was an old printing press and had great food that was very inexpensive. When we all meet up after dinner to head back to the boat it seemed like everyone was surprised by Cuba mostly about how much they liked Americans and also by the architecture of the city, most of us said it reminded us of Europe. Once we got back to the boat we had a few oceanography presentations to finish up then it was time for bed.
