The Three Sea Horses

Jul 25, 2012

Location: Dominica
Author: Svenja
Everyone was cheerful even though every muscle was aching from the hike yesterday. Breakfast was probably the most delicious thing, cinnamon roles with yogurt mmmm. We had a amazing briefing by the skipper about what we were going to do for the day, first was the double dive. We went to Witch’s Peak and Champagne for our two dives, the last dive was by far the best and my favorite for animal life. We ended up seeing three colorful sea horses which were bright red, and a tiny octopus which was really difficult to see. The dive is called Champagne due to the volcanic activity underneath, which causes gases to escape and create little bubbles rise to the surface. Then it was off to dry land where we could explore and also have time to write our literature papers for oceanography class. The view from the island was literally like a postcard, with the bright blue sea and the clear skies. The time on shore flashed by and before we knew it we were back on the boat having shower time. Poncho our tour guide form yesterday, came to the boat with his two adorable kids and showed us some of his amazing jewelry which everyone lavished over. After filling up on pasta it was time for science class. We learned about the various reasons for the gases in the ocean, and then it was time for a well deserved rest.
