First Day Diving!

Jul 10, 2013

Location: Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda, NVI
Author: Madeline
Today was another beautiful day in the Caribbean. As skipper of the day, the first job is to put a song on the stereo to wake everyone up in the morning. I didn’t have a song handy so I instead sung a song about mornings and muffins. After some fabulous blueberry muffins and scrambled eggs, we set sail for Savannah Bay in Virgin Gorda from our mooring in Great Harbor Peter. Upon arrival, we were greeted with some Tuscan bean soup from our lovely chefs Hannah and Dave. Lunch was followed by some swim time, complete with a few of us jumping from high off the boat in to the water. Georgia has a waterproof camera, so although underwater pictures are more difficult to capture than previously imagined, we managed to get a few. After that came the highlight of the day: the first dive for the Open Water divers. The dive crew learned to assemble dive gear and practiced their first skills underwater. It was an amazing first experience for everyone involved. Alex graced us all with his lightly sweetened lemonade to accompany the pasta and garlic bread for dinner. Through the question of the day at dinner, we all learned that Jess was a participant in Fear Factor, Jake has a fear of crows, Clara has helped build the Spanish equivalent of a gigantic human pyramid, and Dave once fought an 8 ft hammerhead shark for 2 hours before finally catching it. It is now night and everyone is exhausted. A full day of diving awaits us all tomorrow and I for one cant wait to see what it will bring. Goodnight everyone!
