Happy Thanksgiving!

Nov 28, 2013

Location: Phi Phi Don, Thailand
Author: Claire Hodson
Today can be summed up in one word: FOOD. Thousands of miles from home and American football, I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of Argo Thanksgiving traditions. For one, we had full chickens, heads and all, in lieu of turkey, and my grandmas famous brussel sprout recipe, now her famous Bok Choy recipe as brussel sprouts are no where to be found in Thailand, added a little Asian flair to our American feast. And a feast it was. Thanks to Annie H’s color coded schedule our volunteer chefs spent the day slaving over pies, chicken, stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn and my personal favorite, Leah’s Buckeye chocolate peanut butter dessert. Hannah even learned the proper way to stuff a turkey (aka chicken). Luckily, the chefs were able to head to shore when all the cooking was done to explore the beautiful Phi Phi Don island with the rest of the crew. After a day of shopping, white sand beaches and snorkeling below the sheer rock cliffs with Kyle, Alex and James, it was finally time for dinner. The chefs did an amazing job and I can honestly say I don’t think I have ever been this full. For many of us, this is our first Thanksgiving away from home, but the uniqueness of our experiences and the new traditions we have made with our Argo family are all the more reason to be thankful. From all of us on Argo, Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Chanukah! Sending love and hugs to all of our families and friends back home.
