A Dive On The Magic School Bus!

Jan 31, 2014

Location: Road Town, Tortola, BVI
Author: Cayley Coulbourn

Today began with a gorgeous sunrise over Mountain Point, before we raised anchor for a quick motor over to The Dogs. After a quick briefing, the divers donned their gear for their third open water dive (and for Emma and Dana, a fun dive)… to a sunken Caribbean school bus! Or actually, a sunken airplane without wings. It was a beautiful dive; everybody completed all of their skills, and we got to share our time underwater with some angelfish and barracuda.

After devouring some delicious quiche that Momo, O’Hara and Andrea baked for us, we set right back out for the students final training dive where we practiced some compass skills and buoyancy underwater, and hung out with some more fish.

After surfacing, we hauled up the anchor again for a motor to RoadTown, the capital of the BVIs. En route, we were very productive. We completed a man overboard drill, a fire drill, went over some general safety procedure,AND the scuba students wrote their final exam, completing their course to become certified divers!

I’m so stoked (and proud!!) to have 8 new dive buddies to share the rest of the trips dives with, in addition to those who were already certified. After dinner, we discussed watch teams, since tomorrow our plan is to head out on our first passage to St. Kitts. There’s a lot to look forward to… were itching to get Ocean Stars sails up again!
