Argo Goes Hollywood

Greetings from the South China Sea,
Another uneventful day underway (which, for I’m guessing about 90% of the parents reading this, is relieving news). We had a review game of marine biology catch phrase to prepare us for our upcoming exam and then calculated the amount of different types of fish we could eat in a month without consuming more than the recommended amount of mercury to illustrate the concept of biomagnification. There were a couple of delicious meals prepared and a large argument over lunch about the proper way to make use of applesauce. The English (represented here by Captain Kris & First Mate Jack) seem to think that just because Applesauce is a sauce, means that it cannot be eaten by itself and that it must accompany pork or some other ‘main’ course option. And, extraordinarily confused by the greater American population aboard Argo eating the applesauce by itself, promptly launched into the applesauce debate. But really, the fact that I am writing about the lunchtime applesauce debate on the blog should signify to you what an uneventful day it really was. So, to spice it up a little bit, here is Argo goes Hollywood:
Every day, before dinner, the ‘Skipper of the Day’ poses a ‘squeeze question.’ (If it hasn’t already come up in a blog before, its simply a question that we go around in a circle answering before dinner. It’s rather a cool Argo tradition actually). Today, I asked my shipmates: “If you could re-cast the person to your left as the star in any major motion picture, what character would you have them play?” So, in an attempt to give you a little taste of the characters aboard Argo (whose names I’m sure you consistently hear in blogs and through assorted other multi-media outlets) and to spice up the blog a bit, here are the roles cast by the shipmates, for the shipmates:
Staff:
Kris “The Happy Breadmaker” Stevenson – George of the Jungle
Jack “Mogley” Bloomfield – Ms. Doubtfire
Laurie Chong- Jane Smith (Mr. & Mrs. Smith)
Carolyn “Big C” Kovacs – Surfing Penguin (Surf’s Up)
Forrest Richards – Davey Jones (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Annie Rae – Ke$ha (The Future documentary about the life of Ke$ha)
Cadets:
Hunter “Bev” Stanley – Inigo Montoya (The Princess Bride)
Richie Olson- Martin Short’s Character (Captain Ron)
Joe Sutker- Lead (August Rush)
Max “Brony” Buccholz – Alex Supertramp (Into the Wild)
Mark “Baby Dinosaur” Harper – Audrey II (Little Shop of Horrors)

Katie Querin- M (James Bond)
Desiree “Des” Suhr-Perez – Journalist (Blood Diamond)
Amanda “Mandy” Good – Every Dancer (Step Up)

Hopefully that gives you a little taste of the theatricality and character in play every day on the deck of Argo.
Until Callbacks,
HJS
