Diving into new things

Location: Malolo Island, Fiji

After a full night of sleep having anchor watch off, I woke up bright and early in time to catch the sunrise. Our argo mascot, a baby doll named "sweet girl”, was hoisted up the flag keeping watch of the whole boat. Shane then spoiled us with an amazing breakfast. We all sat around talking as we enjoyed potatoes, baked beans, eggs, and bacon. After going over the schedule for our day, us students working on their open water certifications packed our dive gear and headed toward the sand bar. We finished our confined water dives! We worked on practices such as taking our gear on and off underwater, switching to each others secondary regulator and diving without our goggles. On my second day ever diving began feeling a lot more comfortable setting up gear, managing my buoyancy in the water, and using the BCD and regulators. The students working on their advanced water certification worked on some knowledge reviews and when they finished played games, did arts and crafts, and, did work on the boat. We all reconvened for lunch where we had the best curry ever. Shout out to our cook crew Shane, Sofie, and Isaac! Many of us entertained the cook crew by singing our hearts out to country music. We re-anchored the boat a bit over to prepare for a night of fun. My open water group learned about RDP charts and the relationship between depth and no stop limits. We took a few quizzes and exams to test us and then rushed out to take ocean showers. Which in my opinion are way better than showering in the bathrooms. Half of the advanced students dove nearby. We all got "dressed up" and headed to a floating restaurant for our first sign out night, Sweet girl (the doll) came along and made many friends along the way. You would be impressed by our crews limbo abilities. The sunset was so beautiful! We headed back to the boat and slowed down playing more games reading and sharing stories. It was a great day filled with getting to know each other more and learning dive and sailing skills. I feel so beyond grateful to be in Fiji with people that celebrate being a beginner.
