(Bitter)Sweet 16

Location: Underway to Tarragona

As you might notice, today's schedule is a bit different than the prior 15 days. This is due to an odd phenomenon that is about to occur: The Prevailing Winds (The Mistral). The Mistral could cause a low-pressure zone, which can lead to a storm that could keep us in Monaco for longer than wanted, leading to us missing a few other ports. So, unfortunately, we decided that the best plan would be to skip Monaco and go straight to Tarragona to put us in a better position for the weather. This means a three-day passage with a slightly different schedule consisting of a constant rotating watch throughout the day and night.

Day 16 started bright and early with watch going on through the night, although we were accompanied by a beautiful starry sky(refer to the first photo below). As the sun rose, people slowly meandered into the salon for breakfast and job duties, such as head chef (Liam), sous chefs (Chloe and Ruby), and bread maker (Jesse). If not already awake (possibly due to a long night shift), everyone was woken up officially at 11:30 and sent to the cockpit for a phenomenal lunch of BBQ chicken sandwiches, green beans, and assorted roasted vegetables (possibly my favorite lunch yet). After lunch, we had our duties, possibly a quick nap (second picture below), a class in marine biology, and a class in leadership where we learned more about our peers through fun facts! After class, some people reported back to watch, although others were able to do some school work, take a quick nap, or even work out.

Shortly after watching, team three (Boston, Jesse, Amy, Cat, Ruby, Lillian, James, and Brendan) was put on at 6 pm; dinner was served: Sausage, Green Beans, Zucchini, and Mashed Potatoes. As we ate dinner, the sun made a beautiful picture on the horizon (third picture below). After dinner, all we had left was squeeze (the question today was "If you could have a 2hr conversation with anyone alive or past, who would it be?") and our duties (Dishy Pit pictured in the fourth picture; Dan, James, Brendan, Talia, Cat, Watson, Elis, Lillian, Luke, and Grace C). The final picture is of the cockpit and our water bottle holder with Amy, Smash, and James.
