Location: Roseau, Dominica

Day 11 started off in Portsmouth, Dominica, prepping lunches for our Indian River Lab excursion. A bunch of people pitched in to help Sandra, our head chef for the day, make components that everyone could assemble into burritos. Even though we ran out of containers for our packed lunches, some people got very creative and used the leftover tortilla bags to hold their creations.

Once we made it to the entrance of the river, we split into two boats and made our way down. Along the way, we learned how to use cool tools in order to take samples of the water and measure the salinity and acidity levels at various points in the river. We also saw many birds, trees, and aquatic life that we made sure to take note of so we could add them to our marine biology log books. (Also pictured are some of the delicious coconuts that we got on our boat ride!)

After returning to Argo, we took up the anchor and made our way south about three hours to Roseau, Dominica, where we reunited with Chance, who was on a mostly solo journey on land. We are grateful for Chance’s time on land today because he was able to take this beautiful picture of Argo while the sun was setting!

Our final photo of the day is Gabe hard at work in the bilges due to a problem in the heads, so we are all especially thankful for him today!
