Location: Antigua
Today was a super early morning for Watch Team 1 since we were finishing up our passage from Dominica back to Antigua and had the early morning watch. Getting woken up at 3:30 in the morning was not the most fun thing in the world, but getting to see dolphins swimming off our stern with the sun rising in the background made the early wake-up worth it. There was also a super special moment during the sunrise when the rays of the sun were shining through the clouds down onto the boat. It was genuinely so beautiful, and Tyler told our watch group it was like looking at heaven. After the sun had fully risen and we were relieved from watch, we all promptly went back to sleep for the next 4 hours.
When I finally woke up, it was time for lunch, which we all ate quickly because we needed to tack to get back into English Harbor Slipway in Antigua. However, getting into the harbor and docking the boat proved to be the most eventful and stressful moment of the day. Aiden and I were working together on the jib downhauls to haul down both jibs before everyone else brought down the other sails. To say that bringing down the jibs was a workout is an understatement. We both easily did over 150 sit-ups trying to get the flying jib and main jib down. Once all the sails were down and folded nicely on top of each other, we entered the harbor. We safely docked Vela with both anchors out and four lines on the dock. Due to some underwater obstacles, we booked some divers to come check our anchors for the next morning.
Our night ended with a super yummy dinner of smash burger tacos made by Emma and 10-second summaries of everyones craziest dreams. All in all, it was a good day, and I am super excited for the next!
