Location: Les Saintes, Guadeloupe
This morning featured a beautiful sunrise around the hilly little islands of Les Saintes. Soon, the smell of pancakes filled the air. Breakfast was a deluxe feast thanks to head chef Alev and sous chefs Jack and Zoe, serving us pancakes (yes, some chocolate chips:) with eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit (still from the many bags we brought back from the fruit tour in Dominica). Very full and happy, the morning has consisted mainly of navmaster practice. Now that everyone has learned all the concepts for the navmaster course, it’s all about fine-tuning skills and getting precise with plotting for the big exam day coming up! Before lunch, we also re-anchored the boat to account for some shifting winds throughout the day. Reanchoring was a fun one because we had our third anchor, a kedge anchor, out to hold in place the past couple of days, which added another piece of seamanship class to the operation! As everyone is a pro with the anchors these days, even with three anchors, we had everything sorted in a flash.. just in time for lunch! Another awesome meal, this one was potato pancakes or home fries with an array of toppings and sides. Post lunch was a lot of insight into coral reef ecosystems in marine bio and then free time that everyone certainly made the best of! Hannah, Zoe, and Rocco chose to go to the nearby uninhabited island with Kackie for some exploring, beaching, and hammocking time. Sammy let me join in on her endeavor of making cinnamon rolls from scratch as dessert for the crew tonight, and the rest of our team rested, getting ahead on some schoolwork or swimming. The cherry on top was a bright orange sunset and homemade chicken nuggets with fries and veggies. This crew never fails to amaze me with their ability to come together, help each other out, and adapt to any changes in the plan. Such a wonderful boat family to be a part of. 🙂
