Hey friends and family, back at home! I hope all is well.
It was a great day of sailing from Bonaire to San Blas. Waves and wind picked up quite a lot over the night. Most of today, we experienced 2-3m swells with the occasional short periods of up to 5.5m. Swells like that definitely made it hard to wake up for our 4-8 am watch, but it was a great watch overall lots of shared laughs throughout it. We also had three little squalls during our shift, which I really enjoyed, given the fact that we haven’t had rain for over two weeks. After watch I went back to bed for a little bit for a quick nap then came out to the saloon to work on my essay for a bit before lunch. Max and Klay made a wonderful lunch consisting of chicken, rice, and beans, all of which were cooked perfectly. After lunch, we had a lab including candy and a quiz in Oceanography. The lab was super fun, and the quiz was pretty easy. Next was Seamanship, which Gabe typically makes pretty dense from a knowledge standpoint, but we ended up starting Around the Cape Horn, which was super cool given that most of it was filmed in the 1920’s. And we ended the day with beef tacos and a gorgeous sunset.
Definitely missing home a bit, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.
Until next time,
Jack
