Location: Antigua
Good evening, folks; welcome back to the log and the final episode with me. Vela arrived in Antigua today around 6 p.m. following some hefty winds, ominous fog, and so much water across the deck it would make a lake jealous. Quite eventful for our last passage but reminiscent of our first voyage from Cape Town to St. Helena. As we came closer and closer to English harbor, some of our more enthusiastic crew members rushed to experience some of their last chances at sail handling on Vela and steering this magnificent vessel. It was a bit of a heartbreaking experience for some who have trouble imagining what their life will be like when they return to their homes and families. In only 85 days, all 23 of us have seen personal growth in ourselves and each other, creating a weird amalgamation of the relationships between siblings and coworkers. It’s difficult, even though we’re not quite done, to think how I might never see some of these people again. Life is pulling us all in 23 different directions, and while many of us will make an effort to keep in touch and all of us will forever have a relationship few can relate to, only time will tell if our roads cross again. Overall, though, the crew seems to be staying upbeat and making the most of their final days aboard Vela. We’ve got a couple of nice days ahead of us with diving, dinghy sailing, and a final dinner with the crew. I’m sure you’ll all hear about our experiences soon, so I’ll end it off here. Take care of yourselves yall and have a fantastic day.
Personal Note:
Hi Erzsi, Mom, Dad, Omi, Granny and Pupah. I’ll be home soon. Love you guys. WILY.
