Location: Atlantic Ocean
Good evening, everyone! I’m today’s host, Laszlo, and it’s a pleasure to be here today. Hope everyone tuning into these is doing well. We’re about four days away from St.Helena right now with smooth seas, cloudy skies, and a chance of rain, which will not be fun for tonight’s watch teams. Wind speed’s been low as well, so there haven’t been many opportunities to keep brushing up on our line-handling abilities. As for morale, everyone’s been riding the high of getting to swim in the open ocean and a massive tray of snickerdoodles, which gave the 12-4 a.m. watch team a nice boost when we started dozing off. Folks here seem to be getting used to the off-beat schedule, often taking naps in between short studying/homework sessions. I think everyone, including myself, is going to thoroughly appreciate a good 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep after this trip. Vela crew also had their second quiz today, which had us identifying a couple of different species of marine animals, the favorites of which were Rizzo’s dolphin and Wolfi octopus. Other miscellaneous news includes Conor baking his first rolls (almost universally enjoyed) and everyone managing to get through their first load of mid-ocean laundry. Sadly, that’s all for today, folks. There’s not much to see or do out here in the Atlantic besides looking at gorgeous stars and spotting the occasional whale. Vela crew sends their love. Stay safe and happy.
Personal note:
Hi Erzsi, Mom, Dad, Granny and Pupah. Love you guys, thanks so much for encouraging me to do this. I’m learning so much, meeting many cool people, and growing as a person. I’ll be sure to send a postcard as soon as I’m able. See you here in another 24 days. Wily.
