Location: Underway to St Barth
Hello, faithful family and friends at home. I am writing to you from the chart house of Ocean Star at dusk, a few minutes after a gorgeous sunset and a tasty dinner of homemade enchiladas from Ripley and her sous chefs Q and Taylor. We have had a fun and fab day of sailing on our way from Guadeloupe to St Barth. We have enjoyed our time in the French islands thus far, and we look forward to much more fancy cheese, baguettes, and pastries. This morning we had a yummy breakfast of pancakes and fruit, followed by a busy hour of getting the anchor up and sails set. As Steph and Q raised the anchor, Drew’s team got the foresail up, and my team raised the mainsail. We have been sailing on a comfy beam reach since around 9 am, and we are making quick progress towards our destination. Watch Team 3, which is Steph, Drew, Elling, Rohan, Ripley, and Lauren, took the deck first for the 09-12 watch. At noon, Watch Team 1, which is Smash, Evan, Cameron, Gavin, Kat, and Kacy, took over the helm and boat checks as they took the deck. For lunch, we had Greek quinoa bowls in the breezy and sunny conditions. As the afternoon passed by swiftly due to fun conversations about food and travels, watch team 2, which is me, Q, Aidan, Allistaire, Toby, and Taylor, took over until dinner.
The squeeze question tonight was, “What is your favorite color, and what three adjectives would you use to describe that color?” I don’t know who said it, but someone said that the words you use to describe your favorite color are words that you would use to describe yourself. But of course, I didn’t tell them that part until after everyone had gone around and said their answers. There were some very funny answers like slimy, convenient, and mysterious. The post-sunset sky is darkening, and dishy pit is almost finished, so it’s time for me to sign off and continue watch rotation for the evening. Our course and wind have been great for fast progress, so our anticipated lunch arrival will likely be in the wee hours of the morning arrival. Always better to be early rather than late.
