Location: Basse Terre, St. Kitts
Today we said goodbye to Antigua, which has treated us well for the past week. But we are finally off to our next destinations, and it’s really exciting. We set off for St. Kitts this morning, and after a little adjusting to the movement of the boat, the sails were put up, and we started to watch rotations. We are split into three watch teams: some students with Steve, some with Sasha and Amanda, and some with Lauren. We all got a lot of hands-on learning with getting the boat prepared for departure, and while there were a couple of delays, next time should be much smoother. We had lots of wind, which made everything a little more exciting. We had to go downwind to get to St. Kitts, so we got lots of jibing practice as we zigzagged back and forth towards our destination. As we were coming into the harbor, there was a mild shower, but we didn’t let that deter us from an amazing carbonara dinner. Many of us had little appetite throughout the afternoon, so a tasty dinner was much welcome. Bringing the sails down and anchoring in the dark was a bit of a challenge, but we got everything done successfully. I’m sure everyone is looking forward to what tomorrow will bring.
I miss everyone at home, especially the dogs!
