Location: English Harbour, Antigua
Friday morning and the ocean star crew are ready to take Antigua by storm. After a much-needed breakfast, we set out to hike the Pillars of Hercules, a local notable portion of the coastline that boasts large cliffs suitable for hiking and climbing. It’s not hard to enjoy learning when it’s hands-on and offers a view like that. The trails were light and easy; the water was clear as can be, and the sky the perfect blue. After returning to Ocean Star, we enjoyed lunch onshore, a simple pleasure, and perused the marina grounds. The crew then returned to Ocean Start to continue working on our OCE projects. The late afternoon led us on a stroll up the nearby mountain. At the top, a full view of Antigua and the surrounding sea takes your breath away. Down and across to the beach, we continued, where we enjoyed an evening of barbequing and relaxation. We enjoyed our barbecue between kicks of the soccer ball and tosses of the Frisbee. It’s nights like this where we all bond the most, laughing and joking with each other. As the dark started to settle, we headed back along a simpler walk to the boat. However, the fun didn’t stop there, as it never did on this trip! Upon our return to the marina, we were able to experience a local fish festival with local dishes and music on the dock. All in all, this was one of the best nights out that we’ve had so far.
