Location: Green Cay, BVI
After a delicious breakfast of Matty’s famous fritters and some frenzied last-minute Internet and coffee, the Argonauts buckled down for a day of sail training in preparation for the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta. We successfully pulled out of the congested dock and anchorage, weaving in between sailboats and catamarans as we sailed into the harbor, but soon, it became clear how much work we had left to do. Our sail raise was not without difficulty, as something seemed to go wrong with every sail. The cool thing was discovering someone had attached a halyard to the clew of the flying jib. Overall, we had a fun time learning some racing maneuvers and are looking forward to the next two weeks. After two hours of nonstop tacking and jibing, we motored on to beautiful Green Cay, a small sandy spit adjacent to Joss Van Dyke. Some of the shipmates spent the afternoon jumping off of the bowsprit and hanging out at the beach while others studied feverishly for the upcoming PSCT tides and currents exam. David, Joe, and Hayley explored the local tide pools, and Alex polished the transom until she could see her reflection. We are getting the boat all clean and shiny for race week, so if you see us at race week, make sure to complement the varnish!
