Location: Atlantic Ocean

The day started early for watch team 1 with the 12-4 am watch. For some of the team, wake-ups were unnecessary as they were busy studying for their oceanography mid-term, though others slowly got out of bed and made their way on deck. With stars above and a bright moon, the team was very lively and spent most of the watch continuing to study for Oceanography. As the watch neared its end, a looming rain cloud sent us all running for our foulies and to close hatches. The rain did not let us down, we got a nice fresh water rinse off before handing watch over to watch team 2 who also got to enjoy a fresh water rinse off.

As lunch rolled around and everyone gathered in the cockpit, we were all reminiscing and wishing for rain to come as it did the day before. We stayed dry through lunch, but our bosun of the day, Conor, made sure everyone got a little cool off during clean up. After cooling off from lunch, it was time for the crew to take their mid-term with Will. Everyone was well prepared, with some evening coming on deck after to take a victory lap. After some downtime and more guitar lessons, it was time for leadership. Allie, where they did black and white cards as well as created the Vela code of conduct, some of which included mandatory mid-day deodorant application and airing out wet clothes on deck.

With the new 2-6 staff watch, the students spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out in the saloon playing games, cooking dinner, or taking naps. Dinner was a delicious chili and cornbread cooked up by Kaden and his sous chefs, Maddy and Benno. We ended the day with a squeeze, where I asked everyone what the best piece of cake/cornbread was. Thankfully, we have a pretty smart crew, with most answers being the obvious best piece, the corner. Though now we all know you have to get in line early if you want a corner 🙂
