Location: Fiji to Palau
Today, I had quite an early start to my day. I got woken up at four AM for my watch (with the legendary watch team one), which went till eight AM. I realized that it was the Fourth of July, so you know I had to put on my American flag swim trunks. Usually, on our watches, watch team one gets rained on, which is why when we came up out of the companionway, it was a nice dry surprise. It stayed dry for most of our watch but in typical rain watch fashion, it started raining on us 15 minutes before our watch was over. After watch I took a nice long nap.
I woke up from my nap at about 11:30 to the beautiful smell of spaghetti and chicken cooked by our wonderful Head Chef, Elanore, and Sous Chefs, Iain and Addy. I quickly did my wake-up rounds and rounded up the crew for a delicious meal at 12:00 after brushing my teeth, of course. Today was a special day, our chefs had prepared a two dessert day for us, which is truly a treat. For lunch, Elanore made a cake that’s called pudding chomeur, or for an English translation, “unemployed people cake”. French is an interesting language. Either way, it was delicious. During lunch clean-up, we were visited by a pod of dolphins who rode our bow, which was really awesome. After lunch, we had an oceanography quiz, which I don’t think I did too hot on (sorry, Mom), and a scientific sketch and drawing workshop where we got to draw fish, which was pretty cool.
A little bit prior to dinner, we spotted something floating in the water that looked like it could have been a capsized vessel, but it turned out to be just some floating debris with a few birds on it. For dinner, Elanore, Iain, and Addy threw together some General Tso’s Chicken/Tofu with some rice, which was absolutely delicious. For dessert, we were blessed with a fruit cocktail that had been chilled, which cold things are truly a scarcity on Argo. To end dinner and our squeeze, we sang the Star Spangled Banner to end our meal in a patriotic manner. To wrap things up, Neptune blessed us with a beautiful sunset.
