Location: Ile Cabrits, Les Saintes
Doth beeth the day in which we embarketh oneth the greateth journey for which we were bound for the steely island of pigeon- our Capitan Nick.
First, the early birds, Zoe and Meg, were up before everyone working on Zoes dives for her Dive Master certification. To start the rest of the morning off strong, Allie went to the island of Les Saintes to get our breakfast, which was delicious croissants, chocolate croissants, and baguettes. Shortly after, my group of divers, Max, Owen, Jaxson, Will, and I, working on our rescue certification, went off on a 3-hour training morning. We started with surfacing an underwater unconscious diver, which then transitioned into giving that diver rescue breaths while removing both of our dive gear and getting them to the dinghy. Those skills were relatively normal and we all had a good time saving our victims. The funny part came when we had to drag our unconscious dive buddy onto the dinghy. To do this, we had to get our buddys arms stuck onto the dinghy, then we had to jump up into the dinghy while still holing their hands. THEN, we had to pull them over the side, flip them onto their back, and give rescue breaths, all of which had to be done in 30 seconds. It was difficult, but we all had fun with it. I enjoyed dragging my victims around and saving them. All of us got waterboarded an equal number of times except for poor Zoe. Zoe was my buddy, as well as everyone elses, so she defo got waterboarded the most. But luckily, that was all of the rescue training for the day. While we were gone, the remaining people had some free time to work on our literature reviews due tonight and also worked on their EFR (Emergency First Responder) knowledge reviews.
We had a short lunch break, which was quesadillas and mango salsa made by Nadia. The group who was diving did their knowledge reviews, and while we were doing that, the group who had already completed them helped get the ship ready for passage. We began our passage to Guadeloupe, which was short. While on passage, everyone gathered in the cockpit for our EFR lessons. Ben broke out the CPR dummies from their prison so we could learn the proper technique. We also enlisted the help of a buddy to practice primary care, seeing if someone is breathing or responsive. We also learned how to give rescue breaths the right way. The class was fun and engaging.
We all seemed to be having a good time and still learned what we needed to. Ben then gave us a short break before we started our oceanography class. Today, we learned about waves in the ocean. Ben was hitting us with some surf terminology, getting us ready for our surf day coming up at St. Barts. After class ended, the chefs, Nadia, Jaxson, and Allie, started cooking our fantastic chicken tender dinner. It was a very much-needed meal. We gathered for our daily squeeze, and the question of the day was, What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten? The expected answers of crickets or grasshoppers were given, but there were also some wild answers, like Zoe eating a maggot cake or Robert eating cow brains. Anyway.everyone is cleaning up now, and I need to turn in my literature review. Hope you enjoyed todays blog and come back for more tomorrow!!
PS love you, family 🙂
