Today began with a 7 a.m. wake-up by me, and we were met with our favorite phrase, “It’s going to be a dynamic day”. We secured everything on deck in our dry, comfy foulies and had a wonderful breakfast down below out of the rain of overnight oats prepared by our wonderful chef, Holland. After cleanup, we motored nearby to protect ourselves from the weather coming our way. We had our seamanship class below deck, and we had our safety quiz where we had to memorize the station bill (safety procedures) that we’ve all been anxiously studying for or procrastinating studying for. In true Seamester fashion, we did the oral portion of our quiz for pointing out safety equipment on deck bundled in our foulies in the rain and sea spray. We had a delicious pasta lunch, and then the 80-dayers had Marine Bio class.
Meanwhile, the 40-dayers were free to nap and read. We motored again in the storm to be in a better protected spot, and half of the students were above deck hanging out in the rain having a dance party. The other half of the students stayed below deck and watched movies, read, and kept ourselves busy while it rained. We ended our night with a delicious dinner of mashed potato bowls prepared by Holland and her sous chefs. My squeeze question tonight successfully got everyone hungry for some non-boat food as I asked, “What would be your last meal, if you were on death row?” For now, we’re drying off until those of us who have anchor watch tonight have to brave the storm in our (hopefully) waterproof gear. Until then, good night!
