Greetings to all the homies at home. We are out here, surviving, yet also thriving. From overflowing heads to 4:30 am wake-ups, today was quite the day. I blessed our wonderful crew this morning with some Bob Marley as we scrambled to get ready in 15 minutes. Shout out to Big Rach, who sacrificed her knee to the main companionway to get us all breakfast bars to eat as we galavanted to the bus station. The tickets said we weren’t allowed to talk to anyone next to us, so it was a very quiet ride full of naps. Some of our crew missed the memo, however, and chatted the whole time, gaining us a few dirty looks, but we’re used to that by now.
Upon arriving in Barcelona, we broke into groups, and mine ended up having the right priorities, meaning two breakfasts. It was raining the whole time (and I mean the entire time), and we had to mentally prepare for the daunting task ahead of us — getting all 26 of our crew on bikes around Barcelona without losing any limbs. We nearly pulled it off until Matt decided he wanted to show off his graceful falling skills by skidding his bike into the middle of a busy courtyard, directly into a puddle, and losing the bell on his bike in the process. A true highlight for those of us who were blessed to witness it. (He’s ok… I think) During the tour, we visited many historical places like La Sagrada Familia and Catedral de Barcelona. The architecture was truly a sight to see. Throughout our last few passages, many people realized their lack of cold-weather clothing and made it their mission to purchase all their much-needed essentials. I, for one, had different priorities. My laptop I brought from home, decided to make this trip just a lot bit more stressful than it already is by breaking and not turning on.
I tried everything I could to bring it back to life but to no avail. Sophie and Isabelle went with me to an electronics store where I finally was able to get a cheap computer that actually turns on and stays on. Who knew that could bring someone so much joy? As we were heading back to the bus station, we received an ominous text saying our dinner time was being cut short due to the fact that none of us can keep our cabins clean. While we were all frantically shoving our belongings in the cubbies or wherever there was extra room, one of the heads started overflowing due to its constant mistreatment by the crew. I mean, we can’t even remember to turn the lights off half the time. We were finally freed to go eat dinner, where pretty much all the restaurants were closed, but we ended up having a pleasant enough evening despite some questionable onion rings. The boat is unusually quiet compared to how it normally is at this hour (no intense games of spicy uno) since we’ve all been up for about 18 hours. We’re all excited for passage tomorrow and are crossing our fingers and toes for calmer seas again.
To everyone back home, I miss you all and can’t wait to see you again, but it’s been an amazing time.
Signing out for now,
Jahoolio 🙂
