Sayonara Shipmates!

Location: New York City

After an incredible time sailing in the parade yesterday, today we bid the shipmates adieu as they set back off onto their own adventures. As they loaded into taxis or reunited with family on the dock, we were sad to see them go, and will greatly miss all of the laughter and memories they brought to Vela while onboard! The last 3 weeks passed in the blink of an eye, filled with amazing sunsets, sentimental squeeze questions, instant coffee watches, chaotic dishy pits, digital camera photo shoots, and of course lots and lots of sail handling! We hope everyone is able to take home the lessons and skills they learned on the trip and integrate them into their lives in some capacity— whether that cheffing or stewing or cable coiling or trashmastering! It is difficult to leave Vela without being changed by her in some beautiful, permanent way. And it’s crazy to think that we all started 1600 nautical miles ago in the BVI!
Anyway, the staff (and Stella, Alex, and Nate) have lots to do to prepare Vela for her next transatlantic leg! (And have lots of Goldfish to restock!!)
Until next time!
