Friday Full of Faffing

Location: Underway to Mauritius

This morning, I woke up abruptly to see Zeke sleeping like how you would imagine Shrek to sleep. Quite a sight to see. Then I got thrown out of my bed with the constant rocking we have with this southeast swell. We all make our way to the cockpit to tear up Vera’s Swedish pancakes. I made 5 of them with all sorts of combinations of Nutella, peanut butter, jam, lemon, and sugar. After a very fulfilling meal watch team 3 and I spent a very enjoyable 20 or so minutes on watch before we had to go down for our dreaded midterm exam for oceanography. As our exam went on, the constant sounds of slamming stainless steel in the galley nearly gave me an aneurysm.

Not to worry, we all excelled through it and passed with flying colors! (I hope we don’t actually know) After the fact, we gather back together to go over our IYCC exams. Most of us passed and will now be partially certified. We all had a little downtime from them to dinner, so I headed up to do some much-needed laundry. It was quite the spot to do laundry. The swell had significantly increased and had become more unpredictable. The sun also peeked out, which was a wonderful sight to see, since it had been days without sun. For dinner, Vera made a wonderful dish of Swedish meatballs, which was quite a hit here on Vela. I am now still in the salon while everyone is doing their jobs, listening to Henry’s great playlist with a mix of Mama Mia’s soundtrack and some Bob Dylan to cap off the night.
