The Great Indian Crossing

Location: Underway to Mauritius

Today was another usual day on our two-week passage from Cocos (Keeling) Islands to Mauritius. Everyone is starting to get settled into the routine of passage. After a night of watch filled with riddles, jokes, and eventful jobs on deck and sail handling, we had our wake-up at noon for our lunch prepared by Gus. He made us some amazing taco bowls. After lunch, we had oceanography with Nacho, where we had a quiz and some exam prep for the test coming up in the next couple of days. With 30 people in the salon for class and the boat rocking back and forth, it feels like the equivalent of having class in a sauna. After oceanography, we had a slight break before hopping into leadership class led by Ozzie and Gus, where they talked about morality in leadership; they had some great discussion questions that really got the class engaged. After our two classes were done for the day, we had a break for a little bit, then rolled right into dinner. Gus made chili and cornbread, which really hit the spot. Being only a couple of days into passage and having waves that are taller than the side of the boat coming at us, for what seems like 24/7, this is starting to really feel like the real deal of sailing. It's been a blast to be thrown in and get to know the way around the boat on this passage.
Only a couple of days until we are halfway through the trip, which seems crazy. Feels like yesterday we were leaving the port in Bali for the first time. It has been a blast and can not wait for the craziness of the rest of this passage and for the fun we will have on the second half of this trip.
Shoutout to Mom, Dad, Hannah, and Tia. Love and miss you guys, and can't wait to talk in a couple of weeks and share all the crazy stories from the passage.
