Day 90

Location: Papeete, Tahiti

Finally, it’s day 90. I cannot believe it. It feels like the last day of school and the last day of summer camp rolled into one. We’re meeting people’s parents, we’re moving our stuff up from down below…our time is truly coming to an end.
I am so grateful that I get to write the final blog. Two days ago, Meg asked me if I wanted to. I said yes. Yesterday, Rachel said she heard I was writing the final blog. I said yes. Today, Nick asked me if I wanted to write the final blog, and I said yes. I am so honored that I, SkylAr WolfE, have the privilege of writing the final blog.
Our first person to leave was at 5 am this morning: Grace. Counting off for breakfast was not the same without thirteen.
Our final meal together was Nacho’s zucchini brownies. My last job was up goph. My last time being the up goph to Ruby’s down goph. Only one person was gone from our 8 am breakfast, but somehow the cleanup felt so much emptier.
Ani and Martín made sure we ended our last cleanup with a bang. Timed with the beat drop of Avi’s music, they dumped the dishy pits overboard. Seeing the dirty water tossed overboard to the beat of the music…it was tough. (Tough as in the slang word for really cool)
All of us are hanging out on deck in our Tellus hats. We are also hanging out with the Tellus people themselves. People are getting taxis, Stella is ecstatic to leave, and parents are coming to say hi. The Fiji team is re-arranging their stuff down below.
The staff took prom-style photos in their Tellus gear. I hope you all get to see that.
Unfortunately, I do not have much to say. It is 10:30 am, and we all have to be off by 12 pm. Ruby is writing her cards, and we’re taking turns writing in the guest book.
People are giving out their last hugs.
Nick wanted me to write this blog early because he knows it can take me an hour to write the blog. And like we know, but hey.
Shoutout to Team Dynamic—Charlie and Aidan are locked in and ready to go. They have their sponsors, team name, team Instagram—team_dynamic2028—and they have their charity that they’ll donate to—Tellus and Coral Gardeners, respectively. Go check out Team Dynamic and give them a lot of love like we are.
It’s 11:30 am, and there are very few people on the boat. Me, Colbie, Ruby, Arthur, and Skyler. We’re all leaving in the next half hour.
It’s been fun.
Well, this is SkylAr signing off for the final time.
Best wishes (there are many benefits to being a marine biologist).
