Is There Something on That Line?
Location: Pacific Ocean
Watch Team 1 started its day bright and early at 12 am for our 12 am-4 am watch. Today was a big day for me in particular, because today was the day I acquired my helm-sona. A helm-sona is a special nickname that one receives when they take the helm for the entirety of a 4-hour watch shift. At 4 am, I was crowned Alexander Helm-ilon. The people chose this name for me because I was a key part of a Hamilton sing-along that occurred on deck the previous day. While I slept in until 11:30, Watch Teams 2 and 3 had their watches, where Juliet and Ella both acquired their helm-sona. For lunch, we had a delicious curry made by Nacho, followed by Seamanship class with Charlie in the Salon.
We are currently working towards getting our navmaster certifications, so we are hard at work. While the 80-day students had Marine Biology with Jen, I sat in the shade of the cockpit with Kennedy while we painted our nails with the pink nail polish I brought from home. In the hours that followed, more and more of our staff and peers joined us in the cockpit for good conversation and pink nail polish. After I convinced Captain Shane to sport the hot pink color on his toes, everyone was practically begging me to let them in on the fun. I painted as many as I could before dinner, which was another amazing stew from Nacho. The sunset was looking beautiful behind us, and we were finishing our squeeze question when Isaac yelled out, “Is someone fishing because I think there is something on that line?” This was a call to action for many of the boys in the cockpit. They jumped over anyone and anything in their way and ran to the line at the stern of the ship. The rest of us gathered around and watched as they reeled in a massive Tuna Fish. It was the biggest fish I have ever seen. It was an exciting ending to another amazing day on Argo.
