Check Your…FIRE
Location: Elba, Italy
What’s up, everyone!!! I know you are all waiting to be updated on another amazing day aboard Vela, so here’s the layout! We started our day at 7 am, as usual, with a little music wake-up and some lovely conversations while we waited for breakfast, which consisted of delicious crepes made by our lovely chef of the day, Tom! (Don’t worry, Mom, your crepes are also delicious) Then we did a quick cleanup and got group one in the water to finish off the actual diving portion of our open water certifications, followed by group two shortly after! We all enjoyed this diving more than the past ones, because it consisted of more exploring rather than skills. While groups were in and out of the water, those on the boat got briefed on equipment that we are able to use for our upcoming group oceanography projects. After all the morning diving, we went into a yummy sandwich lunch! (Who knew almost two weeks with no sandwiches would make you miss them) After lunch, we of course cleaned up again, and our certified divers got their kits together to get in the water. Before they jumped in the water, Mac let us know we should probably go check our cabins before Tom beats us there for bunk….FIRE! Everyone come to the cockpit, 0,1,2,3 so on, so forth till we make it to 32. Group one over here, group two meet on the bow, group three, group three! Grab the hoses, someone get the med kits, make sure to grab the fire extinguishers! Group two gets the hoses and starts to spray the water, of course, because it was a fire drill. This spraying of the water only escalated from there. Mac had us running around the deck spraying in all directions till he and Annika dove into the water, pretending to be on fire. I think this only hurt them, though, because the pressure of a fire hose can’t be soft. After our fire drill, of course, the boat started to go down, and we needed to deploy all life rafts! After all this, the divers finally got to go off and explore another beautiful spot! Once they were back, we got straight into dinner, squeeze, and the question: if you were a troll, what would your tax be, what would your bridge be, and what would the destination be? Now you would think that would be the end of the day, but nope! It’s not time to prepare Vela for passage to Porto Venerea!
What a day, what a crew! Talk to you all soon!
