Vela Giveth and Vela Taketh Away

Location: Porto Venere

Today we got to check off yet another first. Our first boat appreciation day! Vela is now glowing from head to stern, and she smells (mostly) like new. We had some time to sleep in a little before starting today off with a really cool oceanography lecture about the tectonic plates. Congratulations are also due to Baxter for guessing the sunrise time down to the minute! Now Annika has to bake him a cake because of a bet. After a delicious Full English for lunch, it was time to give some love back to Vela for all she does for us. We split into several teams, with some of us cleaning our bunks; some deep-cleaning the heads so well they sparkle; Lexi and Mac getting some quality bonding time in the Charthouse; a crew getting the galley and saloon looking lovely; and last but certainly not least, we had a team of scrubbers and shanty singers up on the decks getting every last salt crystal, smudge, and stain out of the decks. Everyone is very happy to say they have fresh sheets and clean bunks. The windows and stainless steel look so clean you could eat off of them, and everyone on board is proud of the work we all did together. Today’s squeeze was to share how we all de-stress after a hard day’s work and then a conga line to finish up the day. We did unfortunately suffer the loss of Francisco’s dear French sunglasses, but hopefully that can be remedied during our big day tomorrow. You’ll have to read tomorrow’s post to know what that is, though!

Signing off from Porto Venere to a beautiful sunset,
~Max
