ONWARDS!! to ‘Bathelona’

Location: Underway to Barcelona

Another GORGEOUS day on the high seas! Vela is now well on her way to Barcelona, which means another full day of watches, class, and tomfoolery. Today's heroes were the brave sailors from watch team 2. Our head bilge near the bow filled with water overnight, so two of our top shop-vac specialists, Kenzie and Alexis, vacuumed the water out and dumped it overboard 😎. Unfortunately, their qualifications for the job were questionable at best, and they spilled the water in one of the staff bunks 😰. Let's hope they don't get thrown overboard tonight.

It was a late general wake-up call today for the rest of the crew, assuming the shop-vac chaos didn't wake them already. Regardless, everyone was up at 11:30 for lunch. Huge shoutout to the cooks today, Hollis, Zane, and Samantha. They had to deal with pots and pans flying around the kitchen as they made us all chicken nuggets (yummy).

After lunch today, we had oceanography, leadership class, and a marine life ID quiz 🤓. We learned about sediment in oceanography, and we talked about the qualities that make a good leader and the ripple effect in leadership class. (No way!) Then we all locked in and destroyed the quiz.

Before we knew it, it was time for dinner. Again, huge shoutout to the chefs. They spent around three hours making Butter Chicken and naan for dinner during the worst of the swell. All three of them were covered in flour by the end. The Bread-maker, Zane, would say the flour seemed to just spontaneously explode on everyone, but I sense some foul play had a hand in dousing his comrades in flour 🧐. Their sacrifices were worth it in the end, however, and the food was delicious.

Finally, the day ended with Squeeze, and we all shared small things we appreciate that people do for each other… and then we ended it with a spirited barking match. Let's just say there were no five-bite-dogs in this one; everyone really put all their pent-up energy into their barks.

Also, honorable mentions to our fallen sailors today… Our beloved crew members Mali and Wyatt seem to have come down with a nasty case of scurvy. They really thugged it out today. Hopefully they make full recoveries soon. (Editor's note: it appears to be a common cold, and they are on the mend!)

Anyway, I have to get to my watch team now. We are up to two-and-a-half-minute planks, and I can't miss them.

Hope everyone reading this is well! We all love you guys.
