Another Amazing Day on Vela
Location: Palma, Mallorca
Hellooooo vela fans! Welcome back to another blog post from your favorite skipper of all time!
My day started out with a chilly 3-4 am watch with Sophie, followed by a few extra hours of much-needed sleep. At 04:00 sharp, we started our passage to Palma, Mallorca. Watch team 3 (aka Baywatch) took over at 08:00. We are now up to three-minute planks, and a new record for longest plank by Annika (the entire duration of Reptilia by The Strokes). Today’s Baywatch was sponsored by protein rice cakes (see Hollis and Makayla’s reactions in the photos). Hollis, Tilly, and I enjoyed an extended bow watch with some great photos with our various inflatable animals and a guest appearance by Zane.
We jumped straight into an exciting marine bio class with Dan, which also brought the less exciting news of our most recent test scores (which were less than ideal for some of us). Luckily, we had an amazing lunch of Mediterranean pasta salad from Francesco and Annika waiting for us when we finished class. After a somewhat speedy cleanup, we headed to shore on the dinghies. Thankfully, Sam tested the water temperature for us with an involuntary swim (good news, it was nice and warm!)
After a quick and slightly sweaty walk through Palma, we spent some time exploring the stunning Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma. We were then let loose to explore the rest of Palma. For anyone wondering, my new favorite gelato combo is dark chocolate and salted caramel.
Back on Vela, we took ocean showers, and Callie and I almost landed our backflips! To celebrate, we enjoyed some delicious Cottage Pie!
I would write more, but someone taught Mac how to find his phone using his Garmin Watch (thanks, Annika), and he’s thoroughly enjoying testing it out in the Charthouse. So I’ll leave you all to enjoy the rest of your day in peace.
And Mom, Dad, Emmy, if you’re reading this, I miss you tons, and I know you all miss me too😘 Sending love from Palma!
