Watch Team 2 Basks in Glory in its Final Days
Location: Underway to Gilbraltar
Hey, guys, it’s Damian. Today was a very eventful day. I had the 4-8 a.m. watch to start the day off. We gybed the sails (the first watch team to do so so far, shoutout Team 2) and, as always, had some interesting debates. We started the day off with a great lunch consisting of hummus, feta, and chicken wraps. Kenzie, Lexi, and Callie did a great job as the chefs. After lunch, we had oceanography and Seamanship class. During seamanship, we did presentations on boats we thought were cool, but by far the coolest boat presented was a boat called Waldo, presented by Owen (the presentation was also amazing). Today was awe-inspiring in terms of wildlife, as we caught a skipjack tuna, 2 Mahi Mahi (one of which we kept), and saw much more. Kenzie and Samantha got the Tuna first, then Griffin caught a Mahi on the hand line, and finally Lexi and I (both members of watch team 2 btw) caught the Mahi we ended up keeping due to it being snagged through the eye. It felt amazing to fish again. Soon after, we even saw a large pod of dolphins! For dinner we had a Chilli that was also great. In the back of everyone’s mind, however, we are dreading having to change watch teams in the near future, after this passage to Gibraltar, so we all have been soaking in the last few chances to hang out with our watch teams. The next set of watch teams is especially important due to it being the ones that will carry on for the entire Atlantic crossing. For the most part, there is an air of excitement on board for our first Vela-caught meal, likely Dorado tacos. Anyways, it’s been a great day. Also, take a second to appreciate platypus for existing. Peace out y’all.
Also, Happy Birthday, Mom!!!🥳 - Love, Wyatt
