Monkey Hike!!!
Location: Gibraltar
Another day in Gibraltar taken advantage of to the maximum with a hike to its peak! Waking up at 7am was in the dark, a recurring experience these days as our days become shorter while we ease into Autumn in the northern hemisphere. Nevertheless, once the words ‘monkey hike’ were placed upon our lips, the air became electric. We gulped down our overnight oat breakfast, slathered our sandwiches in preparation for lunch, and were off. The overcast streets were empty except for the 30 of us plowing through, all with one-pointed minds. To see the monkeys. Banana shirts, monkey socks, and other monkey-based memorabilia were all on display to convince the monkeys we meant them no harm. The climb up the mountain began gently, but soon we were ascending sheer cliff faces in the pursuit of our goal. Upon reaching the summit, our desires were fulfilled. Monkeys, in all their glory. But alas! Our banana socks were unable to convince them of our peaceful tidings, and the attacks rained down upon us! Kaylin was the first victim, losing her precious sweets. The attacks were swift and relentless, and we had no option but to retreat down the mountain’s other face. Led by our fearful, [REDACTED], and [REDACTED] leader Macaire LaBarge, who cowered at every turn, we made it safely out of the dragon’s den, somehow. Lunch in a safe zone allowed us to recuperate, and we slithered back to the safety of town soon after. The rest of the afternoon was spent running errands, seamanship class with D(T)om, the best ID quiz ever experienced by any Seamester student, and pancakes for dinner. Tomorrow we depart for Morocco!
