The Atlantic Awaits

Location: Underway to Moracco

Today’s major milestone hit while all but Watch Team Two (with yours truly at the helm) were peacefully resting in their bunks. We have left our wonderful Mediterranean waters back in Gibraltar, and are now well and truly in the Atlantic! The daytime itself was quite productive for the students of Vela, with groups putting the finishing touches on their research proposals, some time in the DIY hair salon, and getting some communal review done for the upcoming oceanography midterm throughout the morning. After a lovely Mediterranean salad for lunch, it was time to dive deep into coral reefs presented by the one and only Dan. We also got our first glimpse at ID Quiz 3: cetaceans! After marine bio, we joined Tom up top for a deck talk, going over alllll of the different lines, cables, rails, cleats, and more. We finished the day with chicken enchiladas cheffed up by Baxter, Callie, and Wyatt before moving our watches back an hour to better match up with the time zones we have passed through! Our squeeze for today was which of the three ID quizzes we would want to live amongst, finished with one last goodbye to the Med. Right as cleanup was finishing, we recovered a lone bucket from the waters, with some baby gooseneck barnacles for a logbook addition. New freshy pit!! Onto phase two of our voyage!

See you in the next edition,
